People's Alliance partner BBP announces minimum wage demand: 'If no update is to be made'

Destici, a partner in the People's Alliance, stated regarding minimum wage expectations, "If a new meeting is not to be held in July 2025 to update the minimum wage, then in our opinion, the January 2025 minimum wage increase rate should be 60 percent.

We know that this is not actually a figure that will meet expectations. We are presenting a serious figure while also keeping the realities in mind. We are not making empty promises like some others," he said.

'UNACCEPTABLE' BELOW 50 PERCENT

Expressing that an increase below 50 percent is absolutely unacceptable, Destici said, "We hope that with an increase at the 60 percent level, our minimum wage earners will at least be able to breathe a sigh of relief to some extent."

Stating that retirees are among the most aggrieved groups, Destici said, "Especially our retirees who receive low pensions. An injustice was done to retirees in July 2023. The situations of other working segments were improved either through collective bargaining agreements or flat-rate raises, but in July 2023, our retirees did not even receive the 25 percent inflation adjustment raise they deserved."

Sharing information regarding pension salaries and raise expectations, Destici said, "We will raise the lowest pension above 20 thousand liras. Anything else would be an injustice and would mean the continuation of the injustice done to retirees. As the Great Unity Party, we expect this injustice to end in January 2025," he said.
