Picnic turns into tragedy at Lake Iznik: The painful end of two cousins

In the Orhangazi district of Bursa, after two cousins who went on a picnic with their families went missing, search efforts initiated upon the discovery of their slippers by the lakeshore resulted in the recovery of the children's lifeless bodies.

In a tragic incident on the shores of Lake Iznik in the Orhangazi district of Bursa, two related families went to the lakeside for a picnic. In the afternoon hours, the families realized that their children, Berat Anıl Yılmaz and Yener Çakır, had disappeared. After a brief search of the surrounding area, the situation was immediately reported to the 112 Emergency Call Center upon the discovery of the children's slippers on the lakeshore.

AFAD, medical, gendarmerie, and police teams were dispatched to the scene in a short time. As a result of a detailed search conducted by the teams around the lake, the two children were found lying side by side and motionless in a water collection basin belonging to the State Hydraulic Works (DSİ), located approximately 50 meters from the picnic area.

The families experienced great shock and sorrow upon the discovery of their children's lifeless bodies. Medical teams intervened to assist family members who suffered nervous breakdowns at the scene.

Following initial examinations, the cousins' bodies were taken to the morgue for autopsies. While the investigation into the incident continues, it was learned according to initial findings that the children had drifted from Lake Iznik into the DSİ water collection basin.

Authorities issued warnings regarding the safety of the lake and the surrounding water collection basins, and it was reported that the incident is being investigated in all its aspects.
