Polat couple in court: Release decision in 'Banu Parlak' case

The trial of social media influencer Dilan Polat and her husband Engin Polat continued as part of the case regarding the shooting at Banu Parlak's beauty center. During the hearing, Dilan Polat suffered a breakdown and was removed from the courtroom. While having the breakdown, Polat said, "My God, I have no guilt, my God, please save me."

The beauty center belonging to social media influencer Banu Parlak, located in the Bahçeşehir 1st Section Doğa Park, was shot at by suspects on motorcycles on October 1, 2023, between 02:00 and 04:30. The trial, in which the couple Dilan and Engin Polat are also requested to be punished for the crime of 'incitement' within the scope of the indictment prepared regarding the incident, continued at the Küçükçekmece Courthouse.

Dilan Polat, Engin Polat, and Sezgin Polat were present at the hearing held at the Küçükçekmece Criminal Court of First Instance. Banu Parlak, who withdrew her complaint, and the lawyers of the parties also attended the hearing.

As the hearing was about to begin, Banu Parlak and Dilan Polat could not hold back their tears and began to cry. Dilan Polat fell to the ground and cried, saying, "My God, I have no guilt, my God, please save me."

Dilan Polat, who suffered a breakdown, was removed from the courtroom. Banu Parlak also cried, saying, "Dilan, I am here, look."

In the ongoing hearing, the judge stated that the request to merge the file with the organized crime file at the Istanbul Courthouse had been rejected and the file had been returned to its own court. Banu Parlak, whose petition submitted to the court was read, stated that she withdrew her request to join the case regarding Dilan, Engin, and Sezgin Polat, but that she maintained her request to join regarding the other defendants.

On the other hand, a person named Gültekin Alan, who submitted a petition, stated, "Barış Boyun is someone who works in counter-terrorism in Istanbul and Europe. The Daltons and Barış Boyun are under my command. I gave the order to shoot at Banu Parlak's workplace."

Engin and Sezgin Polat, when given the floor, said they did not know the person who submitted the petition and had no information about the petition.

FROM THE INDICTMENT

In the indictment prepared by the Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was explained that defendant Dilan Polat sent a threatening message to Banu Parlak in a speech in a video she posted on her social media account.

In the indictment, it was stated that shortly after this message, upon a joint decision made by Dilan and Engin Polat, defendant Engin Polat contacted Berat Can and Batın Can Gökdemir, fugitive leaders of the armed organized crime group known in the public as the "Daltons" gang, through his connections in Georgia to organize an armed attack on the complainant's workplace.

It was stated in the indictment that the Gökdemir brothers gave instructions to the defendants Batuhan İnci, Yunus Emre Yıldız, Nizamettin Bilgili, Onur Abiç, and İsmail Emre Arifoğlu, who were waiting in a specially rented cell house in Istanbul, ready for action. In the indictment, it was recorded that the workplace was shot at and that 4 of the 5 windows on its exterior were replaced, and the total damage due to the attack was 45 thousand liras.

Banu Parlak, who filed a complaint after the incident, had complained about the Polat family, whom she accused of wanting to have her killed. Dilan Polat, in her statement, defended herself by saying that she did not make the remarks in the video containing threats for Parlak, but that she had made them generally for those who verbally attacked her.

Defendant Engin Polat, on the other hand, defended himself by saying that he heard about the attack on social media, and that Banu Parlak had made a statement on social media 2 days before the attack and accused them, and that he did not know who did it.
In the indictment, it was requested that the Polat couple be sentenced to a total of 2 years and 4 months to 8 years in prison each for the crimes of "inciting the crime of threat with a weapon by more than one person" and "inciting property damage."

For Barış Boyun, Berat Can, and Batin Can Gökdemir, it was requested that they be sentenced to a total of 8 years and 4 months to 23 years in prison each for the crimes of "establishing an organization for the purpose of committing armed crimes," "threat with a weapon by more than one person," "property damage," and "carrying an unlicensed weapon."

In the indictment, it was requested that the other defendants Batuhan İnci, İsmail Emre Arifoğlu, Nizamettin Bilgili, Onur Abiç, Yunus Emre Yıldız, and Sezgin Polat be sentenced to 2 years and 4 months to 23 years in prison for various crimes.

JUDGE DECIDED TO CONTINUE DETENTION

On the other hand, journalist Emrullah Erdinç, who followed the hearing, stated in a post on his social media account that the judge wanted the detention of all defendants to continue. Erdinç also wrote that Dilan Polat was taken back to prison.

Emrullah Erdinç's social media post is as follows:

"The prosecutor gave his opinion and requested the merger of the file due to the act and dispute, and the continuation of the detention of all defendants.

Sezgin Polat asked, 'Are we still detained?' The judge said, 'That is the prosecutor's request, I have not made a decision yet, it is not that easy.'

Engin Polat: We are seeking justice, we trust in justice. We have been detained innocently for 9 months. We want our release and acquittal."

COURT ANNOUNCED ITS INTERIM DECISION

The court decided that Dilan Polat, Engin Polat, and Sezgin Polat would be tried without detention.

Other investigations regarding the couple are ongoing.

Journalist Emrullah Erdinç wrote that the decision for trial without detention was issued for Dilan Polat and Engin Polat.

Speaking at the courthouse after the release decision in the beauty center shooting case, Banu Parlak said: "I am happy, you saw Dilan's state, I cried with her."

Parlak, who withdrew her complaint, hugged the Polat couple's children out of joy: Here are those moments...
