Police and gendarmerie to switch to new system for summer shifts
Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi announced that police and gendarmerie forces will transition to a 12-hour work, 36-hour rest system during the summer months.

Meeting with editors-in-chief of media organizations in Istanbul, Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi stated that 97.2 percent of murders have been solved during the last 23 years of AKP governments, and that thanks to measures taken, there has been a 6.8 percent decrease in 10 major crimes against persons in 2025 compared to 2024, with clearance rates for incidents also increasing.
Explaining that improvements to the personal rights of police officers are being carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance and the Presidential Strategy and Budget Directorate, Minister Çiftçi noted that 10 thousand police academy students will graduate in May instead of July, allowing for the transition to a 12-hour work, 36-hour rest system during the summer months.
He added that starting from 2027, overtime pay for law enforcement officers working more than 40 hours a week due to matches and additional assignments could be brought to the agenda within the framework of budgetary possibilities.
