Police barricade against animal rights lawyers at Parliament

Istanbul Bar Association President Attorney Filiz Saraç announced that members of the Istanbul Bar Association's Animal Rights Center were blocked by police barricades from entering the public Milli Egemenlik Park outside the TBMM (Grand National Assembly of Turkey) campus, where they had gone to express their opposition to the draft law regarding the euthanasia of stray animals.

Istanbul Bar Association President Attorney Filiz Saraç announced on X that members of the Istanbul Bar Association's Animal Rights Center were prevented from entering Milli Egemenlik Park, where they had gone to protest the draft law regarding the euthanasia of stray animals.

Saraç stated the following:

"The entry of our Bar Association's Animal Rights Center members, our colleagues who are members of our Bar, and lawyer colleagues from other bar associations into the public Milli Egemenlik Park outside the TBMM campus was blocked by police barricades!

This barricade should not be set up against animal rights defenders, but against those who instill animal hatred in citizens, those who fuel this hatred, and those who advocate for massacre under the name of 'euthanasia'!

The 'Draft Law on Amendments to the Animal Protection Law' submitted to the TBMM, contrary to protecting animals, envisions the collection of stray animals, their confinement in shelters, and their subsequent gradual slaughter.

It is NEVER POSSIBLE FOR US TO ACCEPT this draft law!

STRAY ANIMALS ARE NOT ALONE!"
