Police block TOKİ victims in front of AKP district office: 'We just want our rights'

In Istanbul's Tuzla district, TOKİ victims who have been waiting for 5 years to move into the homes they are entitled to wanted to hold a press statement in front of the AKP Maltepe district office.

According to the report by Oğulcan Aydın from Birgün; an argument broke out between the TOKİ victims and the police. When security forces tried to prevent the statement from being made in the pre-determined area, the protesters reacted to the decision.

The victims, reacting to the police, said, "Handcuff us all and take us away, we are here with our children, we just want our rights."

Those who were not allowed to make a statement in front of the Maltepe AKP District Presidency began marching toward the district square. The protest by the TOKİ victim families, who chanted slogans such as "The victims are here, where is Murat Kurum?" and "Fixed installments are our right, we will take them by force," continues.

The demands of the 5,750 victimized rights holders are as follows:

• Restoration of the right to fixed payments

• VAT to be charged at 1% as per the initial terms

• Even if the initial price terms are not met, at least a 25% discount should be applied to adapt the “Low-Income Project” to the budgets of low-income individuals

• Acceleration of home delivery processes so they do not take up to 7 years

• Urgent drawing of all remaining lots so that the rights of the remaining beneficiaries are not violated, while some of the beneficiaries have already had their apartments determined

• Fulfillment of the promises made by the President, ministers, and TOKİ using the name of the state.
