Inspections regarding the consumption of alcohol in public spaces in Istanbul have now surfaced on the Üsküdar waterfront. Individuals reported to be consuming alcohol on the shore were issued an announcement via a police drone and ordered to leave the area.
In the footage of the incident, the drone flying over the area where the individuals were located broadcast the following message: “Attention, attention, this is a police drone. Alcohol consumption is prohibited here. Please comply with the warnings and leave. Otherwise, penal action will be taken.”
Following the warning, the individuals on the waterfront were requested to vacate the area. The practice drew attention following a similar incident that occurred recently in Fatih.
In Fatih’s Kocamustafapaşa neighborhood on Narlıkapı Street, an individual consuming alcohol in a public space had also been warned by a police drone. That announcement stated, “This is a police drone. Drinking alcohol in this area is prohibited,” and the individual was ordered to leave the area.
It is noted that the drones, which the General Directorate of Security previously announced as “new generation,” can be used both day and night and are equipped with thermal cameras and night vision capabilities. The devices, which have integrated loudspeakers, are capable of making announcements and can also provide area illumination with spotlights.
