The Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) organized a rally titled 'Now is the Time for Freedom' and a 'Newroz Celebration' at the Yenikapı Rally Area in Istanbul's Fatih District. Police intervened in the event.
The Istanbul Governor's Office announced that 70 people were detained.
The statement made by the Istanbul Governor's Office is as follows:
''During the security operations conducted in the area and its surroundings due to the event in question; individuals identified as (M.A), (Ş.A), and (Y.Ö), who unfurled a poster of the PKK/KCK armed terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan on a tower in the event area, were detained. During security checks around the area, individuals named (M.K) and (M.B), who had active arrest warrants for 'engaging in terrorist organization propaganda,' were detained. A total of 70 individuals (15 women, 55 men) were detained in the event area and its surroundings for 'resisting the police, causing disturbances, and engaging in terrorist organization propaganda by chanting illegal slogans.' Our fight against terrorism will continue with determination.''
