Police intervene in TKP march against NATO summit in Ankara
A march organized by the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) to protest the NATO summit in Ankara was blocked by police; more than 100 people, including party officials, were detained.

The capital city of Ankara witnessed large-scale protests just before the NATO Summit was held. Members of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) gathered at Kızılay Square to protest the summit and began a march. Hundreds of party members expressed their opposition to NATO with banners and slogans. During the demonstration, where the slogan "Killer NATO, get out of our country!" was prominent, the progress of the march was halted by police teams.
OVER 100 DETAINED
Police intervened against party members who wanted to continue the demonstration despite bans and obstacles. Following the scuffle that occurred during the intervention, more than 100 people, including TKP officials, were detained. It was learned that those detained were taken to police stations. Security measures taken within the scope of the summit in Ankara and controls over social protests have also been increased.
