Workers employed at the Elazığ Eti Gümüş and Doruk Madencilik facilities under Yıldızlar SSS Holding came to Ankara, citing that promises made to them had not been kept.
Miners who are members of the Independent Mining Union (Bağımsız Maden-İş) marched to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources to convey their demands. It was reported that many workers were detained after facing police intervention in front of the ministry.
The union stated that members of the press were also removed from the area during the intervention, arguing that the recording of the intervention against the workers was prevented.
In a statement made on the Independent Mining Union's social media account, it was said, “As Eti Gümüş and Doruk Madencilik workers, we were detained in front of the responsible Ministry of Energy in Ankara, where we came to follow up on broken promises.”
The statement alleged that promises had been made that payments to Eti Gümüş workers would be made on August 6 and that the unpaid leave payments for Doruk Madencilik workers would be fulfilled. The union stated, “We said we stand by our word and that we would return if payment was not made, and we have returned. We will not leave now until we receive our rights.”
