Police officer in Istanbul issued fake gun licenses by forging signatures of Yerlikaya and Aktaş

It has been revealed that a police officer serving at the Istanbul Police Department issued fake gun licenses to 10 people in exchange for 1,500 dollars by forging the signatures of the then-governor and current Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya and Provincial Police Chief Zafer Aktaş. In the operation conducted regarding the incident, 12 people were detained, and 2 of the suspects were arrested.

INSPECTOR APPOINTED

When the Director of the Firearms and Explosives Branch of the Istanbul Police Department examined the files of the individuals who received gun licenses, he noticed an anomaly in the signature of Provincial Police Chief Zafer Aktaş in the files of 10 people. The branch director, having determined that the signatures did not match the original signatures, reported the situation to Aktaş. Upon Aktaş also confirming that the signatures did not belong to him, the Minister of Interior was informed, and an inspector was appointed regarding the matter.

12 PEOPLE DETAINED

In the initial investigation conducted by the inspectors, it was determined that the 10 files in question were prepared by the same police officer. As a result of the criminal investigation, it was revealed that the signatures and initials were fake. In the operation carried out following this, a total of 12 people were detained, including the police officer who prepared the files, the 10 people who received the gun licenses, and the owner of a gun shop who introduced these individuals.

10 PEOPLE RELEASED UNDER JUDICIAL CONTROL

During the searches conducted in the suspects' homes, 10 pistols, 12 magazines, 8,285 rounds of ammunition, and 10 fake gun carry licenses were seized. Of the suspects who were referred to the courthouse after police procedures, the police officer and the gun shop owner were arrested, while 10 people were released under judicial control.
