Police officer shot at checkpoint in Ankara

An armed attack was carried out while police teams were conducting a routine check during the night in Ankara. Police officer Ahmet Türkoğlu was critically wounded as a result of shots fired during an identity check. Despite all interventions at the hospital where he was taken, Türkoğlu was martyred.
It was stated that the incident occurred around 23:30 in the Karacaören neighborhood of the Altındağ district. It was reported that while police teams were checking the identities of individuals in a vehicle stopped during a "shock" inspection, the suspect in the back seat got out of the vehicle and fired two shots at the officer on duty with a handgun.
After the attack, two suspects in the vehicle were apprehended. It was reported that the attacker, who allegedly opened fire on the police, attempted suicide after the incident and was captured in critical condition. The suspect was taken to the hospital after intervention by medical teams.
The wounded police officer, Ahmet Türkoğlu, was taken to Pursaklar State Hospital. Despite all efforts made there, Türkoğlu could not be saved.
STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR CANBOLAT
Ankara Governor Yakup Canbolat, who arrived at the hospital after the incident, stated that there were three people in the vehicle stopped at the checkpoint and that the attack took place during the identity check.
Unfortunately, we lost our police officer Ahmet Türkoğlu despite all interventions. Our heroic police officer has unfortunately been martyred. We pray for God's mercy upon him. Our condolences to all.
Canbolat stated that the condition of the person who carried out the attack is critical and that the other two people caught in connection with the incident have been taken into custody. The investigation is ongoing.
