An incident that occurred in Istanbul during the night led to the discovery of a potential assassination attempt thanks to the vigilance of a police officer.
While police officer U.N. was heading home on his motorcycle after his shift in Avcılar, he became suspicious of two people on a motorcycle with a folded license plate as he was traveling on the D-100 highway side road in Küçükçekmece.
He drew his weapon after the "stop" order
Police officer U.N. ordered the suspects to "stop." Allegedly, the motorcycle driver, M.B., drew his handgun to shoot at the police officer.
However, the suspect's weapon jammed. Upon this, the police officer returned fire with his service pistol.
As a result of the gunfire, the suspect M.B. was wounded in the hand.
The other suspect fled after discarding his bulletproof vest
The other suspect on the motorcycle, Ş.Y., fled on foot during the incident, leaving behind the bulletproof vest he was wearing and the bag he was carrying.
Upon notification, numerous police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene.
M.B., who was slightly wounded in the hand, was taken to the hospital after initial intervention by medical teams. After his treatment was completed, the suspect was taken to the police station.
Long-barreled weapon found in the bag
During the investigation conducted by police teams at the scene, a long-barreled automatic weapon and a mobile phone were found in the bag left behind by the fleeing suspect, Ş.Y.
It was learned that examinations of the seized phone revealed that the suspects were preparing for an assassination targeting an individual in Beylikdüzü.
Furthermore, it was determined that the motorcycle used in the incident was stolen.
The suspect has a criminal record of 25 offenses
Investigations determined that M.B., who was captured wounded, has 1 criminal record.
It was determined that the fleeing suspect, Ş.Y., has a total of 25 criminal records, including 2 counts of intentional homicide, 1 count of shooting at a workplace, and 2 counts of robbery.
It was learned that police teams have launched a large-scale operation to apprehend other individuals considered to be connected to the fleeing suspect, Ş.Y.
