Postponement decision in the Aziz İhsan Aktaş case

Statements against the opinion on the merits have been completed in the case involving 200 defendants. The court has adjourned the hearing where the verdict will be announced to August 24.

In the 59th hearing of the case regarding the Aziz İhsan Aktaş criminal organization, the statements of all defendants and their lawyers against the opinion on the merits have been completed.

The case, heard by the Istanbul 1st High Criminal Court in the courtroom opposite the Marmara Closed Penal Institution, involves 200 defendants, 7 of whom are in custody, including 7 mayors, 6 of whom have been suspended from duty.

During the hearing, the lawyers for the suspended Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat presented their defense against the opinion on the merits. Following their statements regarding the alleged acts, the lawyers requested Akpolat's release and acquittal.

With the completion of the lawyers' statements, all defendant and defense counsel statements against the opinion on the merits in the file have been received.

Presiding Judge Oğuzhan Gül stated that all lawyers must be present at the hearing on Monday, August 24, when the verdict will be announced. Gül announced that it was decided to issue a final warning that the crime of "misconduct in office" could be constituted for lawyers who do not attend.

The court panel adjourned the hearing to August 24.
