The preliminary autopsy report for Nilüfer Belediyespor volleyball player Pilar Marie Victoria Lopez has been released. It is suspected that the athlete, who ate mushroom chicken salad and took painkillers on the night she passed away, died from food poisoning.

Pilar Marie Victoria Lopez, who did not show any health issues during the medical check-up she underwent in Bursa during her transfer process to Nilüfer Belediyespor, ate a meal with her teammates after training ended around 18:00 on August 28.
Later, she ate mushroom chicken salad at a restaurant near their home with her teammate Julia Szczurowska, who lived in the same apartment building.
It is alleged that the volleyball player took two painkiller pills that night, went home, and sent messages to her friends between 23:00 and 00:00.
According to the report in 10HABER, it was stated that Lopez, who also used sleeping pills, did not show up for training on August 29. Club officials tried to reach the athlete but were unsuccessful. Eventually, they went to the house where the volleyball player was staying.
The doorbell was rung, but no one answered. A locksmith arrived. The door had been locked from the inside. When the locksmith could not open the door through normal means, he had to break the lock. The athlete had set an alarm for her morning wake-up time. The physiotherapist who entered first heard the alarm still ringing. Lopez was in her bed and motionless. An ambulance and police were called immediately. The Puerto Rican player had passed away. The volleyball player's body was sent to the Forensic Medicine Institute for an autopsy following the prosecutor's examination. In the investigation conducted by the police at the house, no evidence of suicide, drug use, or suspicion of murder was found.
