Preliminary report completed in deadly crash: 'The driver has a direct impact'
An expert committee investigating the traffic accident in Ankara's Polatlı district, which left 9 people dead and 30 injured, has completed its preliminary report.

In the vicinity of Olukpınar village in Ankara's Polatlı district, a Mercedes-brand passenger bus with license plate 04 AAV 951, belonging to the Öz Ağrı Seç Turizm company and driven by Çetin Karayel, crashed into bridge piers. In the accident caused by the impact, 9 people lost their lives, including Fezile Baydar (59), Suna Yaşar Bilgi (28), Ayşan İlman (49), Elif Mira İlman (9), Satı Polat (54), Mahmut Esin (32), Dilan Bayar (31) and Muhammet Ozan Bayar (10) from the Bayar family, and the bus driver Çetin Karayel (45), while 30 people were injured.
THE DRIVER HAS A DIRECT IMPACT
As part of the investigation launched by the Ankara West Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the accident, a 5-person committee consisting of a mechanical engineer, an electrical engineer, and a traffic expert was formed. In the preliminary report submitted to the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office by the experts, it was stated that driver Karayel, who failed to comply with lane tracking and changing rules, had a direct impact on the accident.
The report, which also examined License Plate Recognition System (PTS) and Electronic Inspection System (EDS) records, stated that no technical failure or defect in the bus was observed at this stage, and that this would be detailed in the final report to be submitted to the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
The report included information that the bus's records from its departure from Doğubayazıt to the Olukpınar location where the accident occurred, as well as footage from the rest stops where the bus paused, were examined in detail. It was noted that the bus, whose footage was last examined on the route of Mevlana Boulevard, Armada Mall, and Temelli Police Station in Ankara, was last seen at 04.50, 10 minutes before the accident. It was stated that the expert committee would submit the final report to the West Chief Public Prosecutor's Office after a detailed examination of the bus.
7 PEOPLE REMAIN IN CRITICAL CONDITION
According to information obtained from health units, it was noted that 2 people were taken to intensive care due to being intubated following the accident, while 7 people remain in critical condition. It was learned that 3 people were discharged after their treatments were completed.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The Mercedes-brand passenger bus with license plate 04 AAV 951, belonging to the Öz Ağrı Seç Turizm company and driven by Çetin Karayel, which set off from Ağrı to İzmir, went off the road and crashed into bridge piers near Olukpınar village in Ankara's Polatlı district in the early hours of the morning. Fire crews arriving at the scene upon notification rescued those trapped in the bus. The injured were transferred to surrounding hospitals by ambulances. In the accident, 9 people lost their lives, including Fezile Baydar (59), Suna Yaşar Bilgi (28), Ayşan İlman (49), Elif Mira İlman (9), Satı Polat (54), Mahmut Esin (32), Dilan Bayar (31) and Muhammet Ozan Bayar (10) from the Bayar family, and the bus driver Çetin Karayel (45), while 30 people were injured. Five of the bodies were brought to Ağrı Ahmed-i Hani Airport by plane. The bodies, which were met with tears and laments by their relatives, had been laid to rest.
