Preliminary report on the psychological state of children in the neighborhood where Narin lost her life completed: Scope of teams expanded

According to information obtained, immediately after the report that 8-year-old Narin Güran, whose lifeless body was found in Diyarbakır, had gone missing, teams from the Ministry of Family and Social Services went to Tavşantepe Neighborhood and began psychosocial support efforts.

PRELIMINARY FORENSIC REPORT ON NARIN'S DEATH COMPLETED

Continuing their work from the time Narin went missing until her body was found, and subsequently during the school reopening process, the Ministry teams provided support to nearly 50 children between the ages of 7 and 13 in 3 separate groups through social workers, psychologists, and psychological counselors.

A report was prepared by the psychosocial support team regarding the sessions held with the children, covering many topics ranging from safe space activities to what should be done during moments of stress, anxiety, and fear, as well as their future dreams and hopes.

The report in question has been completed and sent to the ministry.

In the preliminary report prepared by the field teams regarding the situation of the children in Tavşantepe Neighborhood, it was assessed that "the children are not talking about the situation, and they may have suppressed it or been unable to make sense of it."

Furthermore, the report stated that there is a "possibility that the children are being strictly advised by their families not to talk about the subject," and it was assessed that the presence of a large number of gendarmerie and search and rescue teams in the village during the process affected the children's daily routines, and that the children are having difficulty adapting to this situation both psychologically and socially.

It was learned that Minister Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş gave instructions for a more in-depth examination of the children's situation following the initial report received.

In this context, it was learned that a more comprehensive team has been formed within the Ministry to improve the psychological well-being of the children in Tavşantepe Neighborhood and to help their daily life routines return to their former order.

It was stated that the Tavşantepe special team, which will be established within the Department of Psychosocial Support in Disasters and Emergencies, plans to conduct work on grief and trauma with the children in the village in the near future.

It was noted that more comprehensive studies will begin immediately after the investigation is completed.
