President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to visit the White House for the first time as Biden's guest

President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will travel to Washington on May 9 as a guest of US President Joe Biden. 

Erdoğan has previously held meetings with US President Biden at international summits, most recently coming together at the NATO summit in Lithuania last July. The two leaders will meet in the Oval Office for the first time.

CRITICAL TOPICS ON THE TABLE

Relations between the two countries gained momentum following Turkey's approval of Sweden's NATO membership.

In recent days, MIT Director İbrahim Kalın and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also traveled to the US to hold meetings.

The fight against terrorism, the latest situation in Gaza, and cooperation in the field of defense will be the critical topics on the table.

Erdoğan will once again convey to Biden in person the message that Israeli attacks on Gaza must stop permanently and reiterate the necessity of a two-state solution. The acceleration of the F-16 procurement and modernization process will also be discussed.

The fight against terrorism in northern Syria and Turkey's discomfort with the US support for the YPG will also be among the issues on the agenda.
