President carves doner, guests line up: 'In Germany, more than any other...'

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier carved doner alongside Arif Keleş, a third-generation doner shop owner from Berlin, at the German Embassy's summer residence in Tarabya.
Emphasizing his pleasure in having Keleş accompany him on his visit to Turkey, Steinmeier stated that the doner kebab, developed by Turkish guest workers, has now become Germany's national dish.

Steinmeier said, "No fast food is sold more, eaten more, or even exported more in Germany than doner."
Keleş also stated that it was a source of pride for him to carve doner with President Steinmeier during such a meaningful visit.
The event was attended by Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, 11th President Abdullah Gül, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Ambassador Feridun Sinirlioğlu, Bundestag Vice President Aydan Özoğuz, German Federal Parliament members Serap Güler and Nils Schmidt, as well as guests from the worlds of sports, politics, and business.
Guests formed long queues to eat the doner.
