Pressure on school administrators to share Erdoğan posts

We have seen teachers being bused to Erdoğan's rallies many times, but this is a first: A mandatory social media mobilization for Erdoğan in schools.

Following Turkey's declaration of a one-day mourning period for Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz made posts on his social media account targeting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, which subsequently led to posts being shared on social media with the hashtag "We stand with Erdoğan."

A report by Emirhan Çoban from Cumhuriyet revealed that some of these posts were not 'voluntary'.

It was learned that Serap Yılmaz, the District Director of National Education in Ankara's Gölbaşı district, sent a message to a WhatsApp group containing administrators of schools in Gölbaşı, requesting support for Erdoğan via social media.

FORWARDED YUSUF TEKİN'S VIDEOS

The message stated, "We need your support on social media. We kindly request that our education administrators, starting with our district directors, use the hashtag 'We stand with Erdoğan' in an appropriate manner." It was also learned that Yılmaz sent social media videos of Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin to the same WhatsApp group, adding the note, "Let's share this, friends." The fact that the messages were not written firsthand but were forwarded as messages raised the question, "Could the instruction have come from the ministry?"

Commenting on the issue, Eğitim-İş Union President Kadem Özbay said, "During the AKP era, merit has been replaced by loyalty, cronyism, and obedience. The posts made by people in these positions are proof of how far we have drifted from state culture. It is an indicator that the institutions of the state and the Republic have been hollowed out and corrupted. This is a reflection of the one-man mentality."
