Prison Directorate responds to claims that Dilan Polat spent New Year's with her family

The General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses stated that "the claims that detainee Dilan Polat spent New Year's with her family and was granted special privileges are untrue."

In the statement made by the General Directorate, it was noted that there was a need to inform the public following reports that Polat had been "in the hospital for 11 days" and "spent New Year's with her family."

"TRANSFERRED TO A HEALTHCARE FACILITY"

The statement indicated that Polat had been transferred to healthcare facilities multiple times after November 5, 2023, due to health issues.

Pointing out that following an application made by Polat on December 15, 2023, due to illness, she was transferred to the Psychiatry Polyclinic of Bakırköy Prof. Dr. Mazhar Osman Training and Research Hospital for Mental and Nervous Diseases on December 29, 2023, based on a medical board report issued by the Marmara Penal Institutions State Hospital, the statement noted that Polat was admitted to the hospital on the same day following an examination and was discharged and returned to the penal institution yesterday upon the completion of her treatment.

"CLAIMS OF PRIVILEGES ARE UNTRUE"

The statement conveyed that during the time Polat remained in the hospital, she was granted a one-time closed visit with her family on January 5, 2024, in accordance with the provisions of Article 83 of the Law on the Execution of Penal and Security Measures, adding, "The claims that detainee Dilan Polat spent New Year's with her family and was granted privileges are completely untrue. The aforementioned claims are far from good faith and are intended to create a negative perception in the public eye."
