AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has signed off on another hike for the international departure tax.
The stamp fee, which was 150 TL before June 24, 2024, had been raised to 500 TL until December 31, and to 710 TL as of January 1, 2025.
With the decision published in the Official Gazette last night, the stamp fee has become 1,000 TL.
Cem Küçük, one of the columnists for the pro-government newspaper Türkiye Gazetesi, reacted to the increase in question.
Sharing on his X account, Küçük stated, "Nearly a 100 percent hike in the international departure tax in one year. The tax, which was 500 liras in 2024, had risen to 710 liras in January. With the decision taken yesterday, the figure was increased to 1,000 liras. Thus, the tax has been hiked by over 80 percent within a year. Inflation is at the 35 percent level. Traveling abroad has now become quite difficult. Besides, why are we paying this tax? That is a separate issue".
