Pro-government media had targeted him: Response comes to allegations regarding Deniz Göktaş's father

Following the arrest of comedian Deniz Göktaş on charges of "insulting religious values" and "insulting the President," allegations raised against his father, Kemal Göktaş, have now become a topic of discussion. Reports in some media outlets close to the government claimed that Kemal Göktaş was a member of the THKO (People's Liberation Army of Turkey) and was involved in the incidents during the Çorum Massacre in which police officer Muzaffer Yeşilyurt lost his life and police officer Mehmet Bektaş was injured.

During the Çorum Massacre, which took place between May and July 1980, attacks against Alevis occurred, and police officer Muzaffer Yeşilyurt also lost his life.

"KEMAL GÖKTAŞ WAS NOT A DEFENDANT IN THE CASE"

Sadık Eral, one of the lawyers for the Çorum case, made the following statement to Odatv regarding the allegations in question:

"Kemal Göktaş is not among those tried as defendants in the case regarding the death of the police officers. The only defendants from the People's Liberation Organization are Ali Rıza Özdemir and Günay Kılıç. This decision is clearly visible in the file numbered 187/12 and 187/49 of the 4th Chamber of the Court of Cassation."

Eral further stated that Kemal Göktaş's name does not appear in the indictment dated August 22, 1983, regarding the case file numbered 1983/203 of the 3rd Army and Martial Law Command Military Prosecution, nor in the reversal decision of the 4th Chamber of the Military Court of Cassation dated February 3, 1987, with the file number 1987/12 and decision number 1987/49.

Police officer Mehmet Bektaş, who survived the attack with injuries, had described the events as follows:

"Since the shuttle services in traffic had been removed, we were going to work in the mornings using different vehicles. That morning, while passing through Milönü with Muzaffer, four shots were fired at us from a vacant lot. They shouted, 'Stop, surrender, throw your weapons!' Muzaffer drew his weapon and started firing. My Kırıkkale pistol had jammed. They continued to fire. At that moment, Muzaffer was hit and fell. When he fell, those who were firing moved away. Muzaffer said, 'My fellow countryman, save me!' When I leaned over and looked, he was dead. I took his pistol and fired two shots at those who were fleeing. This time, they were coming towards me as a group of 100-150 people. There was nothing to do; I ran and entered an apartment building. Meanwhile, a brick they threw hit my forehead. The homeowner said, 'Did you find my house to enter, get out!' He even let those who were chasing me inside. They jumped on me and dragged me out into the street. At that moment, I lost consciousness. My wife, Günay, took me from there and brought me to the hospital."
