Pro-government newspaper claims 'Erdoğan will go to Damascus': 'He will visit the Umayyad Mosque'
It has been claimed that AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is planning to travel to Damascus to visit the Umayyad Mosque. It is alleged that the visit will take place within 15 days.

Following the capture of the capital Damascus on December 8 by jihadist groups led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in Syria, Bashar al-Assad left the country and took refuge in Russia with his family.
After the overthrow of the 24-year Bashar al-Assad administration in Syria, National Intelligence Organization (MİT) Chief İbrahim Kalın traveled to Damascus and performed prayers at the Umayyad Mosque.
Subsequently, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan announced that Turkey's Embassy in Damascus would also resume operations starting December 14.

According to a report by the Türkiye newspaper, known for its proximity to the government, it has been learned that AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is preparing to go to Damascus. Damascus sources noted that Erdoğan could visit the Umayyad Mosque within a 15-day period. Erdoğan, who is set to meet with HTS leader Abu Mohammad al-Julani (Ahmad al-Shara), is also expected to come together with Syrian Turkmens.
Accordingly, an extraordinary air and ground protection shield will be established for Erdoğan along the Hama, Homs, and Idlib line. Turkish radars will also be activated to bring all air activity under control.
