Prof. Dr. Naci Görür answers the question 'can we enter our homes?' after the Istanbul earthquake: He listed them one by one

Following the earthquake in Istanbul, citizens who poured into the streets and refused to enter their homes remain anxious about returning. 

Starting at 12:13 PM on April 23, a series of earthquakes occurred in the Sea of Marmara. The tremors, the largest of which was 6.2, were felt in Istanbul and surrounding provinces. 

After the earthquake, citizens hesitant to enter their homes directed questions to experts on social media. The most common of these questions was, "Should we enter our homes or not?"

"ABSOLUTELY DO NOT ENTER THESE HOMES"

Earthquake expert Prof. Dr. Naci Görür provided a clear answer to the public through a statement on his social media account X. Drawing attention specifically to the load-bearing systems of structures, Görür stated the following:

"IF THERE ARE BURSTS, CRACKS, OR BREAKS IN COLUMNS AND BEAMS, DO NOT ENTER"

Friends are asking whether we should enter our homes or not. My assistant is also receiving many questions.

The answer is this:

Absolutely do not enter places where official bodies have said not to enter the building.

Do not enter places that have been sealed by official bodies.

If there are cracks, fissures, etc., in your home, do not enter.

If you hear sounds coming from the columns or beams in your home at night, do not enter.

If there are bursts, cracks, or breaks in the columns or beams, do not enter. Otherwise, you may enter your home.”
