Prof. Dr. Naci Görür references Celal Şengör: "We have no right to be this ignorant"
Seismologist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür continues to issue earthquake warnings. Most recently, Görür stated, "The Republic of Turkey must legally take the necessary steps to transform all of our cities into earthquake-resistant ones."

Prof. Dr. Naci Görür answered questions from İsmail Küçükkaya on Halk TV.
Görür explained the definition of "earthquake-resistant cities" as "cities that survive an earthquake with minimum damage when it occurs."
"WE CANNOT LET SO MANY OF OUR PEOPLE PERISH IN A SINGLE NIGHT"
Görür stated, "In our country, earthquake-resistant cities should be a constitutional matter, and the state should, in a sense, change its perspective on the issue. That is, it should say that all cities must know the danger that threatens them, calculate how that danger will damage the city when it occurs, and take precautions before the danger manifests. As new technologies and understandings constantly evolve, this should be a subject that progresses along with them. Earthquakes have been happening on these lands for millions of years, and they will continue to do so. If we are to remain on these lands, we cannot let so many of our people perish in a single night."
Görür added, "Members of all parties have spoken with me about earthquakes; they listened and took notes. I have approached all party members with an open mind. It is a national duty to enlighten them on this subject with my knowledge."
"WE CAN MAKE THE COUNTRY EARTHQUAKE-RESISTANT IN 15 YEARS"
Görür further warned, "Let our people not die; earthquakes do not distinguish between parties. People trapped under rubble do not account for party affiliation. It is possible for them not to die. We know what to do. If they told us to start tomorrow, we would start tomorrow and make all of Turkey earthquake-resistant in 15 years."

Görür lamented, "They still do not know that an earthquake is a real natural phenomenon. Celal Şengör has a book titled 'Your Ignorance Bothers Me.' We have no right to be this ignorant. It is time for this nation to come to its senses. People should demand earthquake-resistant cities from those who aspire to govern them—they should ask what an earthquake is and how we can be saved!"

Görür noted, "Candidates have started giving speeches. There are crowds everywhere; why aren't hundreds of banners being raised saying, 'Wherever you are, we want you to make this place an earthquake-resistant city'? Why aren't we doing this? We are dying!"
