Professor Kadıoğlu shares list regarding İzmir fires and calls on Minister Yumaklı: “Please find the culprits”

A fire broke out yesterday at 17:12 in a forested area in the Selçuk-Kuşadası highway's Pamucak locality for reasons yet to be determined.

It was reported that the first response was carried out at 17:20.

Homes were evacuated and roads were closed in İzmir and Aydın.

The forest fire, which spread rapidly due to the effect of the strong north wind (poyraz), was intervened in from the air and on the ground.

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı stated that all fires in İzmir have been brought under control; he noted that the fires in İzmir's Menderes and Çeşme districts were human-caused and announced that suspects have been taken into custody.

Professor Mikdat Kadıoğlu shared a list regarding the İzmir fires on his social media account and called on Minister Yumaklı.

Kadıoğlu said, "Unfortunately, there are forest fires in 5 districts of İzmir, but it cannot be said that the air temperature in İzmir is high enough for dried vegetation to ignite on its own. In other words, let's not immediately blame climate change and ignore the root causes of the fires, please. Please find the culprits."
