Proposal from CHP's Gürer to give minimum wage earners a breather! 'Do not garnish'

CHP Niğde Deputy Ömer Fethi Gürer has submitted a legislative proposal to prevent the garnishment of the salaries of minimum wage employees.

Gürer stated, “The minimum wage has turned into the average wage. The process of determining the minimum wage is a period when everyone pays close attention. The purchasing power is more important than what the minimum wage is. Because, a few months after it is announced, the minimum wage falls below the hunger threshold. Considering the economic difficulties faced by those who have to make a living on the minimum wage in the meantime, I have submitted a legislative proposal so that the minimum wage cannot be garnished and remains exempt from seizure.”

Furthermore, Gürer noted, “The balance of individual loans and credit card debts of citizens to banks and financial institutions has reached 2 trillion 619 billion liras… Citizens have nearly 84 billion liras in loan debt under enforcement, excluding interest and enforcement costs. The number of files opened on UYAP and pending in enforcement offices is 21 million 569. A significant portion of these are low-income individuals, those experiencing economic problems, and minimum wage earners. I have submitted the legislative proposal I drafted to the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) so that the wages of those receiving the minimum wage are not garnished. In a process where it has become very difficult to even support a household on the minimum wage under current conditions, at least their minimum wages should not be garnished. They should be provided with support and restructuring so they can pay off their debts over time,” he said.
