Prosecutor's office responds to allegations regarding prison conditions: Aleyna Kalaycıoğlu's situation clarified

Numerous allegations surfaced on social media regarding the living conditions of Aleyna Kalaycıoğlu, who is being held at the Marmara Women's Closed Penal Institution on suspicion of instigating the murder of Kubilay Kaan Kundakçı. Posts claiming that Kalaycıoğlu was being held in an overcrowded ward, that there was a shortage of beds, and that living spaces were inadequate caused significant public concern.

DETAILED RESPONSE FROM THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE

Following the emergence of these allegations, the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office provided detailed information regarding the institution and the room where Kalaycıoğlu is being held. The statement noted, "It has been observed that posts have been made on some social media accounts containing allegations that Aleyna Tutuş Kalaycıoğlu, who is currently held at the Marmara Women's Closed Penal Institution due to the murder of Kubilay Kaan Kundakçı, is in a ward with too many people, that there are constant fights, that the ventilation area is insufficient, that there are not enough beds, and that the detainee cannot eat, etc."

WARD IS NOT OVER CAPACITY

According to the official statement, it was reported that the unit where Kalaycıoğlu is located has 16 rooms with a total capacity of 32 people, and that 63 people are currently staying in the unit. Additionally, it was stated that there are four people in the room where Kalaycıoğlu is staying. The statement also noted that the ventilation area is 162.1 square meters in size.

It was emphasized that all detainees and convicts are provided with basic necessities such as a bed, bed linen, a blanket, a cleaning kit, and a disposable towel upon entry to the prison, and that there is no one in the institution without a bed.

The prosecutor's office also announced that there are no records of any fights or complaints in the unit where Kalaycıoğlu is held. It is on record that Kalaycıoğlu met with a psychologist on March 24, 2026, the day she was admitted to the prison, and that she displayed a positive attitude during this meeting and did not express any problems. Furthermore, it was stated that Kalaycıoğlu has not made any applications to the institution regarding the issues alleged on social media.

In the concluding section of the prosecutor's office statement, it was reported that the rumors were untrue, stating, "For the reasons explained, the social media posts do not reflect the truth. Respectfully announced to the public."

With this statement, it has been officially established that some of the allegations circulating on social media regarding Aleyna Kalaycıoğlu's prison conditions are unfounded.
