Prosecutor's opinion announced in Istanbul May 1st case
The prosecutor's opinion has been announced in the trial of 17 people who were detained while attempting to march from Saraçhane to Taksim on May 1st in Istanbul. It was requested that all defendants be sentenced for "violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations" and "making propaganda for a terrorist organization."

The trial of 17 people, who were detained following police intervention while attempting to enter the area to march from Saraçhane to Taksim on May 1st, continued at the Istanbul 24th High Criminal Court.
In the hearing, the prosecutor, who announced their opinion on the merits, argued that the defendants participated with banners featuring the word "Partizan" and pictures of İbrahim Kaypakkaya, and wore red vests also bearing pictures of İbrahim Kaypakkaya, and that the march had turned into an unlawful meeting and demonstration.
PRISON SENTENCE REQUESTED
In the opinion on the merits, the prosecutor requested that all defendants be sentenced to prison for "making propaganda for a terrorist organization" and "violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911."
The court accepted the lawyers' request for time to prepare their defense against the opinion on the merits and decided to have three of the police officers who signed the apprehension report present to provide their statements at the next hearing, adjourning the trial to December 6, 2024.
