A group of students at Boğaziçi University's South Campus held a march yesterday evening for 15-year-old Hilal Özdemir, who was killed by Ayberk Kurtuluş, an individual with a criminal record of 24 offenses. Students chanted slogans on campus, including "Do not protect, do not cover up, prosecute the perpetrators!" Hilal Özdemir's uncle, Fahri Özdemir, criticized campus security and those responsible for the incident in harsh terms during the funeral ceremony:
"Our 15-year-old dear one is gone. He had 24 crimes. He comes and kills my niece, then kills himself. The only thing I am angry about is that a normal person cannot enter that campus. How does this man enter with that weapon? We will pursue this; we will not leave it at that. This child was even beating his own father; he didn't even come to claim his body."
