Protests against Çalık Holding continue

Protests were held in Istanbul, Ankara, and Eskişehir for Erol Eğrek, who lost his life following an assault by security guards in front of the Çalık Holding building, where he had gone to demand the severance pay he had been unable to collect for 10 years. Demonstrators took to the streets with slogans of "Justice for Erol Eğrek" and demanded that those responsible be put on trial.

The tragic death of Erol Eğrek, who was dismissed from a textile factory owned by Çalık Holding in Turkmenistan and had been pursuing the severance pay he had not received for 10 years, has become a major issue in Turkey. Eğrek lost his life after being beaten by the company's security guards while he was in front of the Çalık Holding building in Gayrettepe, Istanbul, to demand his rights.

Following the incident, left-wing and socialist parties and groups, labor organizations, and youth movements took to the streets in Istanbul, Ankara, and Eskişehir to hold protest demonstrations.

HUNDREDS MARCHED TO THE HOLDING BUILDING IN ISTANBUL

Istanbul Members of various unions, parties, and youth organizations gathered in front of the Çalık Holding building in Gayrettepe and protested the holding company through press statements.

The demonstrators gathered at the exit of the Levent Metro Station. Carrying signs reading "Justice for Erol Eğrek," the crowd attempted to march to the Çalık Holding building on Büyükdere Street while chanting slogans. However, the police set up a barricade at the metro exit and blocked the group's progress. A brief tension occurred between the demonstrators, who reacted to the barricade decision, and the police.

Members of Umut-Sen, FKF, the Red Party, TİP, and TKP delivered press statements.

FKF: 'ENEMIES OF WORKERS WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE'"

Members of the Federation of Idea Clubs (FKF) and the Revolutionary Movement marched to the front of the holding building and demanded that those responsible be held accountable. 

TKP: "WORKERS' RIGHTS ARE BEING USURPED, THEY ARE BEING SILENCED"

The Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) also joined the protest and made a statement in front of the holding's building. The following statements were made in the announcement:

"In this country, while the sweat of workers is being usurped, those who seek their rights are being silenced. But we will not be silent. We will hold them accountable for Erol Eğrek."
