Provincial Health Directorate issues statement on individual admitted to intensive care after drinking Turkish coffee at a cafe

Istanbul Provincial Health Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdullah Emre Güner has issued a statement regarding engineer Ayben Özçilingir Turtura (26), who fell ill after drinking Turkish coffee at a cafe named Runner Up in Beyoğlu.

Güner reported that the reason for Özçilingir Turtura being intubated was edema in her respiratory tract, and that due to her general condition improving, she has been removed from respiratory support and continues to be treated in intensive care.

The full statement by Istanbul Provincial Health Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdullah Emre Güner regarding Özçilingir Turtura is as follows:

"The patient presented with complaints of tongue edema, shortness of breath, and epigastric pain that developed after drinking coffee outside, and intervention was performed.

During the endoscopy performed, hyperemia was detected in the patient's stomach and esophagus. Following the procedure, the patient was intubated due to edema in the respiratory tract and taken under observation in intensive care.

Our patient's general condition is improving; she has been removed from respiratory support and her follow-up and treatment continue in intensive care."
