The iftar program of the radical Islamist organization IBDA-C's youth wing, which sparked comments of 'provocation,' was canceled. Despite this, the group frequently chanted takbirs at Sehzadebasi Mosque.
Following footage showing historical tombstones being broken in the cemetery at Sehzadebasi Mosque in Sarachane Square, Istanbul, the IBDA-C's youth organization, the Great Eastern Raiders Youth Organization, canceled the iftar program it had announced. The group, which held a demonstration at the mosque, frequently chanted takbirs and shouted, "War, jihad, martyrdom!"
IBDA-C Youth had announced that they would hold an iftar at Sehzadebasi on the grounds that some of the protesters who participated in the Imamoglu protest in Sarachane had damaged some tombstones at Sehzadebasi Mosque.
CHP Chairman Ozgur Ozel issued warnings against a possible provocation. The Ministry of Interior and the Istanbul Governorship also took precautions.
The group announced that they canceled the iftar near the time of breaking the fast, citing that the Ministry and the Governorship had taken the necessary precautions.
