Public transport fares increased in İzmir

The third session of the March ordinary meetings of the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Council was held under the administration of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Zafer Levent Yıldır. During the session, a regulation was made regarding public transport fare tariffs. With the decision approved by a majority vote in the council, full, student, and teacher boarding fares were increased, and it was announced that the new tariff would come into effect as of April 1. The council also unanimously approved a 50 percent discount on public transport fares during the Ramadan Feast.

New fare tariff for public transport

The last fare increase in public transport was made with the council decision dated August 15, 2025. The increase was implemented due to rising personnel and maintenance costs, as well as fuel prices, which significantly impact input costs. With the new fare tariff to be applied in public transport, the full boarding fare increased from 30 TL to 35 TL, the student boarding fare from 15 TL to 17.50 TL, and the teacher boarding fare from 20 TL to 23.50 TL. While there has been an increase of approximately 25 percent in diesel prices and approximately 27 percent in the minimum wage since August 15, 2025, when the last fare hike was implemented, the increase rate in the new tariff was limited to approximately 16 percent. The decision passed the council by a majority vote.

Maritime transport fare tariff

The last fare increase for vehicle transport by sea was made with the UKOME decision dated May 18, 2025. According to the regulation that will come into effect on April 1, the motorcycle transport fee was increased from 75 TL to 90 TL (70 TL during discounted hours), the car transport fee from 200 TL to 240 TL (200 TL during discounted hours), the mid-size vehicle transport fee from 400 TL to 480 TL (420 TL during discounted hours), the bus-truck transport fee from 900 TL to 1080 TL, and the semi-trailer truck transport fee from 1,250 TL to 1500 TL. In addition, the discounted fare tariff applied on weekdays outside of peak hours (between 10.00-15.40 and 21.00-23.00) will continue. While there has been an increase of approximately 32 percent in diesel prices and approximately 27 percent in the minimum wage since May 18, 2025, when the last fare hike was implemented, the increase rate in the new tariff was limited to 20 percent. The decision passed the council by a majority vote.

New tariff for İZBAN

The last fare increase for İZBAN was determined by the council decision dated November 24, 2025. According to the new regulation, the full boarding fare increased from 30 TL to 40 TL, the student boarding fare from 12.50 TL to 16.50 TL, and the teacher boarding fare from 22.15 TL to 29.50 TL. For journeys exceeding 20 kilometers, the per-kilometer charge increased from 1.17 TL to 1.50 TL for full fares, from 0.50 TL to 0.65 TL for student fares, and from 0.53 TL to 0.65 TL for teacher fares. The decision passed the council by a majority vote.

New fare tariff for taxis

New tariffs for taxis, student shuttles, and personnel shuttles were also determined unanimously by the council. With the regulation made in the fare tariffs for central taxis, the taximeter opening fee increased from 30 TL to 34.50 TL, the per-kilometer fee from 43 TL to 49.50 TL, the hourly fee from 180 TL to 207 TL, and the short-distance fee (under 2.94 kilometers) from 150 TL to 180 TL. Demands for hikes from tradespeople, particularly due to rising fuel prices in the recent period, were discussed in council commissions. It was deemed appropriate to implement an approximately 5 percent increase for the student shuttle tradespeople's demand for an average 10 percent hike. An approximately 15 percent increase was applied to the newly determined personnel shuttle fare tariff.
