Expectations for an increase in public transport fares in Istanbul have emerged. The proposal, prepared by the relevant commissions of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) and submitted to the İBB Assembly, envisions a 20 percent hike for public transport vehicles such as buses, subways, Metrobüs, minibuses, and ferries, as well as for taxis and school buses.

Following the completion of the commissions' work, the proposal was added to the agenda. According to the plan, the price of a full electronic city ticket will increase from 35 liras to 42 liras. Similarly, it has been proposed that the monthly "Blue Card" subscription fee be raised from the current 2,748 liras to 3,298 liras.

While the taxi meter opening fee is currently 54.50 liras, this figure will become 65.40 liras after the hike. Taxi users will pay 43.56 liras per kilometer instead of 36.30 liras. For the hourly time tariff, it is requested that the fee be increased from 453.71 liras to 544.45 liras. The short-distance taxi fare will rise from 175 liras to 210 liras.

Various increases are also envisioned for minibuses depending on the regional tariff. The short-distance fare (up to 4 kilometers), also known as the "drop-off/pick-up" fee, will increase from 32.50 liras to 39 liras. The fare for 4-7 kilometers will rise from 34 liras to 41 liras, 7-11 kilometers from 35 liras to 42 liras, 11-15 kilometers from 36 liras to 43 liras, and 15-20 kilometers from 39 liras to 47 liras. Student minibus fares will also increase from 21 liras to 25 liras.

There is also an increase in school bus fees. The monthly fee for a 0-1 kilometer distance will be increased from 3,376 liras to 4,051 liras. If the price hike proposal is accepted, the new tariff is expected to come into effect starting February 16.

Additionally, a change is also envisioned for the prices of iftar menus in wedding and event halls under the İBB. According to the proposal, the iftar menu price will increase by 27.27 percent, from 550 liras to 700 liras.

The İBB Assembly is planning to discuss and decide on the aforementioned price hike request in the coming days.
