Publication ban imposed on news regarding sexual assault in Kayseri

It has been announced that a publication ban has been imposed on news reports concerning the sexual assault of a Syrian child by a Syrian national in Kayseri.

The Kayseri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the events that occurred following allegations that a Syrian national, identified as I.A., sexually abused his 7-year-old cousin, also of Syrian nationality, in a restroom at a marketplace in the Danişmentgazi neighborhood of the Melikgazi district.

In this context, the Kayseri 2nd Criminal Court of Peace decided to "prohibit all kinds of news, interviews, criticisms, and similar publications in visual and social media, as well as on the internet, until the investigation phase is completed, in order to protect the health of the victim and the family, and to prevent the social unrest that has increased following the incident, including coverage of the social events and images of the victimized child."

The court also issued a confidentiality order regarding the investigation file.

The Kayseri Governor's Office had previously announced that a Syrian national had been taken into custody regarding the sexual abuse incident in the Danişmentgazi neighborhood and that the child had been placed under protection. During the events that took place in the city following the abuse allegations, 14 police officers and 1 firefighter were injured.

STATEMENT ISSUED BY ALİ YERLİKAYA

Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya made statements on his social media account following the tension.

''Yesterday evening, in the Eskişehir Bağları region of Melikgazi, Kayseri, an individual of Syrian nationality named I.A. was apprehended by citizens in the vicinity and handed over to security forces after molesting a Syrian girl who is his relative. An investigation into the matter has been launched immediately.

However, our citizens later gathered in this region and, acting illegally in a manner that does not befit our humanitarian values, caused damage to homes, workplaces, and vehicles belonging to Syrian nationals.

During the intervention of our security forces against these actions, 67 individuals were taken into custody. The gathered crowd dispersed after 02:00.

Turkey is a state of law. Our security forces continue their fight against all crimes and criminals today, just as they did yesterday. The Supreme Turkish Justice system is handing down the sentences that criminals deserve.

It is unacceptable for our people to cause damage to the environment without regard for public order, security, and human rights.

We cannot allow xenophobia, which is not in our faith, our civilizational values, or the record of our Noble Nation.
