Published in the Official Gazette: Here are the newly recognized professions

The rise in the number of electric and hybrid vehicles in recent years has led to the emergence of a new profession in Turkey, resulting in an amendment to the Communiqué on National Occupational Standards. In addition to traditional vehicle mechanics, the profession of "battery electric and hybrid vehicle maintenance and repair technician" has now been officially recognized. Furthermore, the professions of "surveyor" and "management consultant" have also gained official status.

Electric and semi-electric cars, which have been increasing rapidly worldwide, are also breaking sales records in Turkey.

The series of electric vehicles, pioneered by the government-backed TOGG, has been joined by pure electric vehicles, particularly those of American and Chinese origin, as well as semi-electric (hybrid) vehicles manufactured in various countries.

According to a report by Murat Kaya from Patronlar Dünyası, the proliferation of these vehicles has created a need for experts in the country capable of servicing, repairing, and maintaining them. The state has moved to recognize this previously undefined profession for experts with the ability to maintain electric and hybrid vehicles, registering this new profession by publishing it in the Official Gazette.

In the Official Gazette, where the communiqué titled "Communiqué on the Amendment of the Communiqué on National Occupational Standards" was published, this new electric vehicle expertise profession was added to the occupational standards that had previously been supplemented on June 27, 2016.

'BATTERY ELECTRIC AND HYBRID VEHICLE MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR TECHNICIAN'

According to the communiqué in the Official Gazette, a "Battery electric and hybrid vehicle maintenance and repair technician" will now be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of electric and hybrid vehicles. This official title has been recorded as a new professional field in Turkey.

The amendment, which states that the standard was prepared by Sakarya University, noted that it was updated by the Izmir Chamber of Commerce Education and Health Foundation and verified by the VQA (Vocational Qualifications Authority) Automotive Sector Committee.

The amended communiqué also includes new terms related to electric vehicles, such as diagnostic, multimeter, battery, electric motor, cell, calibration, range, charging unit, and thermal runaway.

Turkey's newly officialized profession is defined as follows:

"A battery electric and hybrid vehicle maintenance and repair technician is a qualified person who, by applying occupational health and safety and environmental protection measures, performs workspace cleaning, checks, and preparation procedures according to quality and task instructions; carries out the towing of electric and hybrid vehicles to the service area, maintenance and repair operations, and battery charging processes; and engages in activities related to their professional development. They are the person who performs basic maintenance and repair operations on electric and hybrid vehicles that do not have faults caused by dangerous voltage."

'SURVEYOR' HAS ALSO BECOME OFFICIALLY RECOGNIZED

Additionally, new professions were added to the National Occupational Standards communiqué in the Official Gazette.

The profession of "surveyor," which defines those who work in the field for public opinion polls—frequently on the agenda during elections—and those who collect answers to questions via communication channels for research purposes, has become officially recognized.

Similarly, for the job of management consulting, which many people perform in Turkey, the profession of "management consultant" has been added to the literature.
