Putin announces he will run in Russia's presidential election

Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced that he will be a candidate in the presidential election to be held in 2024.

According to Russian news agencies, Putin attended a medal ceremony for soldiers at the Kremlin Palace.

At the ceremony, Putin announced that he would run in the presidential election to be held in 2024.

Valentina Matviyenko, Speaker of the Federation Council, the upper house of the Russian Parliament, announced that she supports Putin's decision to run in the election.

The Federation Council met yesterday to determine the date of the presidential election and decided that the election would be held on March 17, 2024.

The previous presidential election in Russia was held on March 18, 2018, and Vladimir Putin was elected president with 76.69 percent of the vote.
