Qatari Prime Minister announces development regarding hostages: Many Israeli hostages could be released soon
Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Al Thani stated that there has been progress in negotiations with Hamas for the release of Israeli hostages.

The Gulf nation of Qatar, in coordination with the United States, is leading mediation talks for the release of more than 200 hostages taken captive during Hamas's October 7 attack.
Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani stated that some progress has been made in the hostage negotiations and expressed hope for steps toward the release of hostages "soon."
Al Thani, who is also the Foreign Minister, stated that communication channels must be kept open to reach a peaceful solution in Gaza.
According to euronews Turkish, speaking at a press conference held after his meeting with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Doha, Al Thani announced that they continue to cooperate with Turkey and other regional partners to de-escalate tensions.
Stating that they "reject collective punishment," Al Thani also emphasized that all parties involved in the violation of international law in the Israel-Palestine conflict must be held accountable.
Foreign Minister Fidan, meanwhile, drew attention to the reaction in the region as death and destruction increase in Gaza, warning that "it is not possible to predict the consequences in advance."
Fidan said, "A ground operation against Gaza will turn this brutality into a full-scale massacre."
WHAT IS BEING DISCUSSED IN THE NEGOTIATIONS?
According to three diplomats with knowledge of the negotiations and a source in the region who spoke to the Reuters news agency, Qatari mediators are urging Hamas to accelerate the process of releasing hostages, including women and children held in Gaza, and to do so without expecting concessions from Israel.
A fifth source who provided information to the agency about the negotiations said that Qatar is discussing the broader release of civilians with Hamas and Israel.
However, the sources of information state that Hamas is keeping the Israeli soldiers it holds hostage out of the negotiations because it views them as a strategic asset to extract significant leverage from Israel.
Two sources in Washington provided information that it is understood by the US that Qatar is pushing Hamas to release the hostages immediately without Israeli concessions.
HOW IS QATAR CONDUCTING THE NEGOTIATIONS?
According to the sources, the argument that the release of a large group of civilian hostages would alleviate a major logistical burden for Hamas, which is engaged in conflict with Israel, is one of the primary arguments Qatar is using in the negotiations.
Diplomats and sources emphasize that it is becoming increasingly difficult to feed, house, and care for the wounded hostages in the blockaded Gaza Strip.
The sources, who claim that Hamas did not expect to take so many hostages, state that tracking the hostages, who are held by different groups in different locations, makes it even more difficult to look after them.
According to the sources, Qatar also argues that a step demonstrating that Hamas, which is seen as a terrorist organization by many Western countries, is sensitive to international humanitarian concerns regarding the captivity of children and non-combatants could provide diplomatic benefits. This step is described as the release of a large number of civilian hostages.
