Quarantine initiated in Elazığ due to foot-and-mouth disease

The Elazığ Governor's Office announced that foot-and-mouth disease has been detected in 3 districts and that a quarantine is ongoing within a 10-kilometer radius of the affected areas. The statement from the Governor's Office indicated that the "O" type foot-and-mouth disease was identified in the Karakoçan, Kovancılar, and Palu districts.

Noting that the quarantine application continues within a 10-kilometer radius of the regions where the disease was observed, the statement included the following remarks:

"Since foot-and-mouth disease coincides with the birthing season for animals, there have been instances of offspring mortality in some facilities. From the moment the disease was first detected, necessary investigations and training efforts were initiated in coordination with experts from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's General Directorate of Food and Control, the Foot-and-Mouth Disease Institute, and the Elazığ Veterinary Control and Research Institute. Vaccination and awareness activities are being carried out continuously by veterinarians serving in our provincial and district directorates. It is of great importance that our producers inform the provincial or district directorates of agriculture as soon as possible if they encounter any suspicious cases. There is no risk associated with the consumption of animal products due to foot-and-mouth disease."
