Martyr baby Bedirhan's father assaulted: Reaction from families of martyrs: 'Women are also trying to hit him'
Ali Yavuz, Kayseri Branch President of the Turkey War Disabled Veterans, Martyrs' Widows and Orphans Association, stated that they strongly condemn the assault on Petty Officer Serkan Karakaya, whose wife and 10-month-old baby Bedirhan were martyred in a PKK attack, saying, "It is unpleasant for an entire family to gang up on one person and assault him."

On July 31, 2018, in the Yüksekova district of Hakkari, Nurcan Karakaya and her 10-month-old baby, Mustafa Bedirhan Karakaya, were martyred when a handmade explosive device previously planted by PKK terrorists on the road detonated while she was returning home by car after visiting her husband, Petty Officer Serkan Karakaya, at the base area where he was stationed.
The martyr mother and her baby were laid to rest side by side in the Şarkışla district of Sivas.
It was reported that Serkan Karakaya, who lives in Kayseri, was assaulted by his neighbors following an alleged argument. While the moment of the incident was captured on a mobile phone camera, it was learned that the neighbors involved in the incident, K.Y., his father Z.Y., his son Y.Y., and M.K., have been taken into custody.
"WE STRONGLY CONDEMN IT"
Ali Yavuz, Kayseri Branch President of the Turkey War Disabled Veterans, Martyrs' Widows and Orphans Association, stated that they condemn the incident and that they stand with Serkan Karakaya.
Yavuz said, "As the Association of Martyrs' Families and Veterans, we have tried to stand by Serkan Karakaya, who is both a trust left by our martyr and a serving petty officer in the Turkish Armed Forces, from the moment we heard about the incident. Those who assaulted the martyr's father had also tried to assault him before.
It has deeply wounded us that they escalated issues regarding the building between them and targeted our petty officer.
We condemn this incident with regret and severity. A 70-year-old person is trying to hit him on the head, and women are also trying to hit him. It is unpleasant for an entire family to gang up on one person and assault him. In the customs and traditions of the Turkish nation, there is no such thing as hitting a person who is alone. The incident has deeply wounded us. We have informed the relevant units, and the individuals who committed the assault are currently in custody. We are following the incident. We hope that such a thing will not happen again," he said.
