Former İzmir MP Hüseyin Kocabıyık, who was expelled from the AKP for protesting operations against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) and supporting Ekrem İmamoğlu, made a striking post on his social media account.

An indictment has been prepared in the espionage investigation conducted against CHP presidential candidate and Ekrem İmamoğlu, who has been detained in Silivri Prison since March 23 on corruption charges.

The indictment alleges that İmamoğlu engaged in activities aimed at "manipulating" the 2019 local elections.

Former İzmir MP Hüseyin Kocabıyık, who was expelled from the AKP for supporting İmamoğlu after the March 19 operation, and who was arrested in October 2025 on charges of 'insulting the president' and released in December, made a striking post regarding the espionage indictment prepared against İmamoğlu.

"YOU MUST PUT BİNALİ YILDIRIM ON TRIAL"

Reacting to the claim that İmamoğlu 'manipulated the 2019 elections', Kocabıyık stated, “Mr. Prosecutor, you have built your indictment on the argument that ‘İmamoğlu manipulated the 2019 elections.’ I will not interfere with your work, but as someone who was involved in politics within the AKP at that time, there was a reality I witnessed. A manipulation was indeed carried out in that election; those who did it are still vivid in the archives and in memories. If manipulation is a crime, first and foremost, you must put Binali Yıldırım on trial, who declared ‘I won the election’ and plastered billboards with ‘We won’ posters.”

In the continuation of his post, Kocabıyık noted that the Anadolu Agency, which halted the data flow during the 2019 local elections, should also be put on trial, adding, “Mr. Prosecutor, your indictment does not rely on legal foundations that would support a judicial process; I submit this in the name of the public and justice.”

Kocabıyık’s post is as follows:

“A reminder to the prosecutor who prepared the ‘spy’ indictment for İmamoğlu:
