As part of the investigation into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), detention warrants were issued for 53 people in the second wave of operations, including Gözdem Ongun, wife of Medya A.Ş. General Manager Murat Ongun, and Cevat Kaya, brother of Dilek İmamoğlu, wife of İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.
While it was learned that 50 people were detained within the scope of the operation, it was reported that police teams conducted searches at the homes of the individuals in question.
The detained individuals were taken to the Istanbul Police Department to provide statements following health checks.
Making a statement on his social media account, Kocabıyık said the following:
'Years ago, we were ready to tear a man apart because he said something about Tayyip Erdoğan’s wife. What is happening now? Mothers and fathers are being taken away in front of their small children. Is there no trace of humanity left in you? Those children will carry these traumas for the rest of their lives. What was done to Murat Ongun’s wife and children was not done to the wife or children of Tayyip Erdoğan or any conservative during the February 28 period.
O you who oppress, you are cutting down all the pillars that keep our humanity, our culture, our spirituality, our wisdom, and our sincerity standing, one by one.
I hope we do not end up buried under a collapse. I still cannot reconcile such evil with the people I know. Therefore, I hope they abandon these very wrong actions as soon as possible.'
