Reaction from Mahir Polat's lawyer regarding 'medication' claims: We will take legal action against inhumane posts

Erdem stated, "The transfer back to Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital today to initiate a new reporting process has created the impression that these are new maneuvers that could prolong my client's release process, and this has caused us concern," while noting that his client's life remains at risk as long as he is held in prison conditions.

Erdem said, "No one can pay the price—politically, legally, or conscientiously—for the irreparable damage to his health and life that may arise due to the prolongation of the process and/or the application of execution suspension rules, which are intended for those with finalized prison sentences, as a basis for Mahir Bey's release when it is not required."

IMM Deputy Secretary General Mahir Polat, who was arrested as part of the "City Consensus" operation targeting the IMM and has been repeatedly transferred from prison to the hospital due to his deteriorating health, had been sent back to Silivri Prison after completing his medical examinations at the hospital.

Polat's lawyer, Erkam Erdem, reported that a Holter monitor was attached to track Polat's blood pressure and that an ultrasound examination was performed for his heart and anxiety complaints, stating, "Mahir Bey has been sent back to prison. A Holter monitor was attached for 24-hour blood pressure monitoring, and an ultrasound, as well as heart and anxiety examinations, were performed. Under these conditions, it appears the file will not go to the Council of Forensic Medicine (ATK) from Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital for a final assessment until tomorrow."

In a new statement on his X account, Erdem also reacted to the Yeni Akit report and social media posts claiming that Polat was not taking his medication, noting the following:

"We are following the manipulative reports claiming that my client Mahir Polat is not taking his medication. We will take legal action against those making these inhumane posts, whose sole purpose is to sabotage the process we are conducting honestly. Despite knowing that someone like Mahir Bey, who has suffered from heart and blood pressure disease for many years, would face fatal consequences if he did not take his medication, the fact that they make such posts shows how those involved have lost their sense of humanity and are acting out of spite.

Furthermore, although Mahir Bey is a detainee and not a convict, and any hospital report determining his health status is sufficient for the application of judicial control measures, we have followed the process of his referral to the Council of Forensic Medicine in accordance with the legislation applied to convicts, with the belief that this process would proceed scientifically and fairly. However, his transfer back to Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital today to initiate a new reporting process has created the impression that these are new maneuvers that could prolong my client's release process, and this has caused us concern.

I would like to share with the public that Mahir Bey's health problems make it impossible for him to remain in prison conditions, and these conditions are continuously damaging his health and pose a vital risk. No one can pay the price—politically, legally, or conscientiously—for the irreparable damage to his health and life that may arise due to the prolongation of the process and/or the application of execution suspension rules, which are intended for those with finalized prison sentences, as a basis for Mahir Bey's release when it is not required."
