Seyhan Mayor reacts to the closure of Adana Şakirpaşa Airport: 'We don't want it'
Adana Şakirpaşa Airport will close following the opening of Çukurova Airport on August 10. As of August 10, no flights will operate from Adana Şakirpaşa Airport. It will continue to be used only for training flights. Seyhan Mayor Oya Tekin reacted to the situation, stating, "They want to close this place through imposition, without asking us, the people of Adana and Seyhan. Our airport is in the center of the city. It is in the heart of the city. We do not want this."

Seyhan Mayor Oya Tekin has reacted to the planned closure of Şakirpaşa Airport. Arguing that the lives of Adana residents are being made more difficult, Tekin stated, "We are not against innovation. We are against the destruction of our own values while innovations are being made and a new airport is being opened."
WE ARE THINKING OF OUR CITY'S ECONOMY
Tekin continued her remarks as follows:
“Is it just about travel convenience? Of course not. We are thinking of our city's economy. We are thinking of our fellow citizens who earn their bread from the airport. We do not want it to be said that ‘there is no airport in Adana.’ We love the values that make Adana what it is, and we want to protect them. This place is a part of our history, our culture, and our city… We experienced our reunions here. We took our first steps toward life abroad from here. Most importantly, while our country was plunged into mourning during the February 6 earthquakes, and all of Turkey was united in solidarity to hold onto life, aid and teams from all over Turkey and the world landed here. Our injured people were rushed here.”
WE ARE AGAINST REDUCING TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS
Asking, "Is closing our airport something a loyal person would do?" Tekin said, "We are not against innovation. We are against the destruction of our own values while innovations are being made and a new airport is being opened. We are against reducing the transportation options for the people of Adana and Seyhan."
