Regarding the announced indictment, Özgenç stated, "The indictment has mixed apples and oranges. In reaction to the warnings I made with the sensitivity of a jurist regarding the unlawful actions of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, my name was also included in the indictment in question, even though it has no connection with reality or the events subject to the accusation (p. 263, 3402). For this reason, it would not be wrong to describe the indictment in question as an INDICTMENT OF SPITE."
Prof. Dr. İzzet Özgenç, former legal advisor to AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan, made a statement regarding the IMM indictment.
Özgenç's social media post is as follows:
"Regarding the INDICTMENT OF SPITE, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has mixed apples and oranges in the indictment dated 11.11.2025, which it prepared regarding the work and transactions at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.
It is understood that, in reaction to the warnings I made with the sensitivity of a jurist regarding the unlawful actions of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, my name was also included in the indictment in question, even though it has no connection with reality or the events subject to the accusation (p. 263, 3402).
For this reason, it would not be wrong to describe the indictment in question as an INDICTMENT OF SPITE.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office was in a hurry. It was going to include my name in the indictment it would prepare against Netanyahu. Because I am someone who criticizes those who brought disaster upon the Palestinian people once again with the attack on October 7, 2023!"
