Record increase in the electricity market: Trading volume rose by 77 percent

According to EPİAŞ data, the trading volume in the electricity spot market exceeded 1.6 billion TL on May 7, 2025, marking a notable increase. The reference price for natural gas was set at 13,828.10 TL.

According to data released by Energy Markets Operation Inc. (EPİAŞ), the trading volume in the electricity spot market on May 7, 2025, increased by 77.4 percent compared to the previous day, reaching 1 billion 619 million 163 thousand 689 TL. This rapid rise was interpreted as an indicator of intense trading and demand activity in the market.

In the spot market, the price for one megawatt-hour of electricity for May 8, 2025, was determined to be a maximum of 3,399.01 TL and a minimum of 1,749.98 TL. In the day-ahead market, the highest hourly price occurred between 19:00 and 21:00, while the lowest price was observed at 07:00 in the morning.

AVERAGE PRICES ROSE

Looking at the daily price averages, the arithmetic average price per megawatt-hour was recorded at 2,871.22 TL, while the weighted average price was 2,881.82 TL. In the spot electricity market on May 7, the highest price for one megawatt-hour of electricity reached up to 3,400 TL. The lowest price was determined to be 100 TL.

REFERENCE PRICE FOR NATURAL GAS REMAINED STABLE

Significant developments also took place in the spot natural gas market on the same day. The reference price for 1,000 cubic meters of natural gas was announced as 13,828.10 TL. The total trading volume was 5 million 44 thousand 285 TL. This figure was 5 million 50 thousand 580 TL the previous day. Thus, a limited decline was observed in the trading volume.

The natural gas trade volume was 370 thousand cubic meters. Balancing gas prices were set at 14,519.51 TL for purchases and 13,136.70 TL for sales. While a total of 119 million 606 thousand 149 cubic meters of natural gas entered the system across Turkey, the amount of natural gas supplied to the market was announced as 119 million 588 thousand 492 cubic meters.
