Prof. Dr. Osman Bülent Zülfikar, who sparked controversy after President Erdoğan appointed him as Rector of Istanbul University on August 1 and he subsequently appointed his brother as chief advisor to the rector, has had a 'reservation grievance' he experienced at a hotel in Konya, where he traveled with his family, published on the "announcements" page of the Istanbul University website.

According to the report by Cumhuriyet, the text in question states that despite Zülfikar and his family having made a reservation in advance, they were forced to wait in line for hours to access their room.

The statement, which noted that the hotel management's apology was not found sufficient, used the following expressions: "We announce that we expect the hotel's owner and General Management to take measures within the framework of guest satisfaction rather than a dry apology, and to display an attitude that will compensate for this error in the presence of our Rector."

The announcement, titled "Press Release Regarding Konya Dedeman Hotel" and signed by the Istanbul University Corporate Communications Coordination, is as follows:

"Unfortunately, an incident that was not pleasant at all and which caused us great sadness occurred on 17.12.2023 at the Konya Hotel of the Dedeman Hotel chain, which serves with the slogan and principle of 'Traditional Dedeman Hospitality'... Although a room reservation had been made in advance and all details regarding the stay and arrival had been communicated, our Rector Prof. Dr. Osman Bülent Zülfikar and his family were kept waiting from the early hours of the morning until 17:00 in the evening and were victimized. Only in the evening hours could a 'temporary room' be provided.

Dismissing this situation with the explanation that it was 'Konya's busiest day' is an unacceptable explanation... The success and guest-hosting differences of brand hotels that provide professional service are already evident through their planning and skill during such busy and full times...

We announce that we expect the owner and General Management of the Dedeman Konya Hotel to take measures within the framework of guest satisfaction rather than a dry apology, and to display an attitude that will compensate for this error in the presence of our Rector..."
