Hasret Doğan, the mother of Batın Barlasçeki, who died after being struck by a vehicle driven by Fatma Zehra Kınık, the daughter of former Red Crescent President Kerem Kınık—who previously made headlines over a tent scandal during the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes—has made striking statements.

'I BELIEVE SHE WAS NOT ARRESTED BECAUSE OF HER PROXIMITY TO THE GOVERNMENT'

According to a report by İsmail Arı from BirGün; Barlasçeki’s mother, Hasret Doğan, stated that she wants justice to be served and that she is angry, saying, “Even people who tweet on social media receive sentences and go to prison, yet Fatma Zehra Kınık, who caused this accident, was released. Because of this, I cannot even grieve properly. Things shouldn't be this simple; after all, a life was lost. There are many examples where people are held in custody during trial for such incidents. However, I believe that Fatma Zehra Kınık was not arrested because her father is the former Red Crescent president and because they are close to the government.”

'IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO UNDERSTAND THIS SITUATION'

“I have always raised my voice for women and animals who have been killed throughout my life,” said Doğan, continuing: “We still haven't been able to access the file. After the accident, instead of referring Kınık to court with a request for arrest, the prosecutor referred her to the magistrate judge with a request for judicial control; it is impossible to understand this situation. There are many problems even in the report prepared after the accident. For example, the side road where the accident occurred was called an intersection, and it was written that the motorcycle hit the car. Fatma Zehra Kınık said she went into shock and couldn't do anything. She says she went and parked her car in a proper place, and witnesses say she did not help the injured.”

THEY CAME TO 'OFFER CONDOLENCES'

Explaining that the Kınık family came to their home three or four days after the accident, Doğan said, “Kerem Kınık and his daughter Fatma Zehra Kınık came to our house to apologize and offer their condolences. They apologized and said, ‘We didn't want it to happen this way.’ My son was not the driver of the motorcycle; he was only a passenger, and the friend who was driving the motorcycle had a license. Everyone should listen to their conscience and raise their voice for justice.”

LAWYERS FILED AN OBJECTION

In the accident that occurred on July 9 on Fatih Sultan Mehmet Street in the Kavacık neighborhood of Istanbul's Beykoz district, Fatma Zehra Kınık hit a motorcycle while exiting Baki Street onto Fatih Sultan Mehmet Street.

In the accident, the motorcycle driver Yavuz Selim Öztürk and Batın Barlasçeki, who was behind him, fell from the motorcycle, and the riderless motorcycle hit pedestrians, causing injuries. While the driver Öztürk survived the accident with injuries, Barlasçeki, who hit his head on a concrete bollard on the sidewalk, lost his life. The car driver, Fatma Zehra Kınık, who was taken into custody, was released by the court to be tried without arrest. The lawyer for the Barlasçeki family filed an objection the other day against the release of Fatma Zehra Kınık to be tried without arrest. Additionally, in the accident report, both vehicle drivers were found to be 50 percent at fault.
